Solar Roof Lights
Skylights and solar roof lights are a great way to add sunlight to the home or a commercial building while avoiding having to continuously use electricity to power interior lights. The cost of running a light bulb all day can add up each month on the overall utility bill, but that can be lessened by taking advantage of the sun’s rays.
Though a skylight and solar roof lights work on the same principals, they have a very different look and feel. A skylight is more or less a window that is installed on the roof. Skylights can be fixed in a locked position or they can be made to open and allow air to flow into the building. Operable skylights usually have some kind of mechanism that allow for easy opening.
Solar roof lights, on the other hand, are simple reflective tubes that require little work to install, but give the interior a finished look similar to recessed lighting. The installation of simple solar roof lights can be done relatively easily because they typically come as a kit.
The roof mounted part of these lights look like a clear glass bubble on the roof. The tube itself is then placed in the attic, where it is connected to the roof mounted bubble and the interior light kit. The interior light kits come in various different shapes and styles and can be made to look like any other type of ceiling mounted light.
The best part about solar roof lights is that there is usually not any structural work that needs to be done to install them. The roof mounted bubble does not even have to be directly over the interior light kit, because the tubes that connect them are designed to flex around obstructions in the attic.
